It’s true mom. I got lost once in Milwaukee and had to ask some vampires for help. Don’t worry– they didn’t hurt me. In fact, they totally ignored me. Don’t be mad. It was years ago!
Ahhhh…. Gen Con. Those were/are the days. Take a stroll down memory lane as I reflect on my early years at Wizards when I was terrified of gamers.
Now look at me. Jeez. I don’t even know me anymore.
I just read your August 25 article on the D&D web site and noticed that people recognized you at GenCon. If I ever become well enough know that people recognize me I’m going to get an expensive pair of sun glasses and then buy you a 8 hr shopping spree at Nordstrom’s shoe department. You certainly have a thing for shoes.
Dear Shelia,
What can I do to help get people to recognize you? There’s this pair of boots at Nordstrom I’m kind of lusting after.
XO,
Shelly
They ignored you while you were lost? Am I the only one scared by LARPing/LARPers? Were they LARPing in public? Is that even legal? Surely there was some kind of sign or something letting you know you had entered their..lair? *shudders*
Hi TeahcherSainted!
Well, I guess the crossed arms over chest WAS their sign. I just didn’t know it. They did ignore me but they were deep in character. I can respect that, I guess. I mean, I’d like to think they would have broken character if I was really in trouble. Yep, LARPING in public. It’s legal!
Hello Again! 🙂
I have decided I know how you should have responded. Since they were in character (in public…again *shudder*) you should have assumed a character as well. You should have introduced yourself as Disgruntled-Lost-Asskicking-Who-Will-Crotchkick-You-If-You-Don’t-Respond-Girl. You’re taking kickboxing, right? I think it’s a part you could have pulled off, and then everyone gets what they want and stays in character. I’d like to think they would have broken character if you were bleeding or something…I’d like to “think” that.
Hi Shelly,
As one of the people that recognized you I wanted to say thanks for doing an interview with me. I should have it up on the site in a day or so(9/16/2010), and will send you the link when I can. Thanks again for chatting with me, and I’m glad I found your blog, because the Wizards site is blocked at work. 🙁 I look forward to catching up on your POV.
Sincerely,
Jim
Blocked? How terrible! I’m glad you found me too! I look forward to the interview. It was my pleasure!
Thanks, it’s out today. I hope you don’t mind, I borrowed a couple of pics of you from the net. One was from here and the other was a fancy head shot of you I’d seen in a few other interviews. If it’s a problem let me know and we can take them down. As for blocking the site, it’s because Wizards is listed under games. Even though you can’t download games to play there and it’s really a publishing site, a lot of different RPG stuff comes under that heading and gets blocked.
Sorry in advance that the link is so long, I’m not sure how to shorten it for convenience. I hope you enjoy, it was a lot of fun doing the interview. It also got top billing today so it’s in the scroll at the top of the screen. Again, thanks for taking the time.

Hi Jim,
Thanks for the link! The pics are fine. I do need to update those head shots, huh? I loved the interview. Felt just like we were there talking again!
